Portnummer 143 and SSL/TLS not possible but required

more options

My mail provider requires the usage of portnummer 143 together with encryption method SSL/TLS. Thunderbird automatically uses encryption method STARTTLS when port # 143 is entered. This is according to the recomended usage of special port numbers, but I need no correction from thunderbird, when my stupid provider wants to use ist differently.

Try changing it in Hamburger icon (top right)/Account Settings/Server Settings

First set the security to SSL/TLS, then type 143 in the port box manually.

I tried to follow your advice. I chose SSL/TLS and then manually changed the port number to 143. At that state the finish button is not selectable. When I click "test again" the port number 143 is changed again and the test fails.

I have solved the problem in a different way. I also have a MacBook Air. There I use Apple Mail and this program allows to create the account with the required settings. From this Macbook I can forward the mail to a different account in Outlook on my Windows desktop. Outlook doesn`t allow to create the account either, because IMAP assumes that the user name is equal to the E-mail address, which is not the case for my account. It was also possible to create the account successfully on my iPhone.

So I don't need Thunderbird any longer and will delete it. But thank you for trying to solve the problem.
