Try clearing your cache and cookies.

  1. Open the Tools menu, then select Clear Recent History... .
  2. In the Time Range to clear: drop-down, select Everything.
  3. Click the arrow next to Details to display the list of items that can be cleared.
  4. Select both Cookies and Cache.
  5. Click Clear Now .

There is no need to remove all cookies. You can clear the Google (Gmail) cookies here: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

This issue began for me today. "Loading" shows and never goes away. I have cleared my cache/ all my cookies all history. Problem still exists. No issue in IE8.

dear ladies and gentlemen at mozilla and google,

if so many gmail users have the identical problem with firefox, please explain why mozilla and/or google have apparently chosen to pull the curtain on what either or both are doing to resolve this issue.

i wonder if google and/or mozilla fear some negative vibes if they responded to these questions.

after all, we are your customers.

thanks,

ken

Ken, are you saying that you are still having the problem? Mozilla is an open source project, which means all development is done in public. All Firefox bugs are tracked in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ . But a lot of people have their pet bugs, that usually only affect a handful of people, and bug comments like "Please fix this" are not constructive so users are generally not pointed to bugzilla right away.

Plus the cause the problem can vary. Not to mention that Gmail often changes their website code. If you're still having the problem and would like to help, just go to http://quality.mozilla.org/docs/ learn how.

hi, again, chris,

i have had this problem w/firefox/gmail for at least several months.

I think that more than a handful of people are trying to resolve the issue, but with little success.

would you please give me some insight as to why plug-ins and extensions [all suggested by firefox] appear to be colliding with gmail; and why senior-level reps at google/gmail don't publicly address what appears to be a common problem and come up with a fix.

btw, sorry to sound defensive, but i've never posted a "Please fix this" phrase in this forum.

thanks for your comments

So clearing your cache and cookies didn't solve the problem? If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

Clearing cache and cookies has nothing to do with plugins and extensions. If you're getting suggestions from somewhere else, could you please post the URLs, so we can have a look?

senior-level reps at google/gmail don't publicly address what appears to be a common problem and come up with a fix.

I don't work for Google, but:

  • the vast majority of users can access Gmail. As far as I can tell, an extremely small percentage of users have having problems loading Gmail, and Google would have to figure out the cause before they can fix it. If it is even a Gmail bug, rather than a Firefox bug.
  • I'm sure Google acknowledges that some users are having problems accessing Gmail, but time is better spent trying to figure out why each of those users are having the problem.
sorry to sound defensive, but i've never posted a "Please fix this" phrase in this forum.

You don't sound defensive at all! :-) I'm glad you're asking these questions. Most users just want their problem fixed, period.

Clearing cache and cookies doesn't work.

Running in safe mode doesn't work.

Submitting to bugzilla requires a new user account, which uses your email, so switch over to Safari or Chrome for Gmail if that is the account you want to use.

Removing the "GMail" cookies solved it for me. Thanks for sharing

Kenold - It looks like that did the trick. In FF, go to preferences, privacy and click remove individual cookies. I did a search for google and deleted all the cookies with google.com in the domain, like maps.google.com, docs.google.com, mail.google.com, etc.

Thank you, thank you!

@Kenold Beauplan It didn't work for me. Googlemail-Account is loading. FF crashes when my Contact-List loads. I reinstalled FF now for 5th time, cleared Profile, Plugins etc.

I have this problem for 1 week now.

Hello everybody! I FOUND the solution to this mystery AT LAST!!!! Non of those offered solutions eradicates this problem, but this one! Now, all of you who DID SUFFER (PAIN, A REAL PAIN) from this gmail issue, read this simple solution! "Disable ALL automatic updates!" Just this! believe me! I've tested this for thousands of times; tested every possible option, and found that while lovely Firefox checks for updates (usually at browser start ups), it fails to load certain pages, which gmail is the most prominent, painful one it fails to load. You can check this by choosing the "About Firefox" menu and see this very strange case yourself while Firefox checks for updates. Right after Firefox finishes checking for updates, it gently loads the stuck gmail 20x faster than IE or any other browser. THANK GOD now I can check my gmail via Firefox!!! (and you 600 other people!)

-)
