when i use firefox the window does not open in the full screen. When i use full screen, all that happens is that the browser window opens in the center of the screen with blank space on either side. this does not happen with internet explorer which came pre installed.

Firefox doesn't use fit to screen to make use of the full screen estate if websites specify the dimensions themselves instead of letting the browser decide.
So switching to a larger browser area like full screen may not have the desired effect.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
