Firefox on PC. I had an icon on the toolbar for Google Translate, then a Firefox update came along and the icon disappeared. Google Translate as an extension is still there but can only be accessed using CNTLSHIFT keyboard keys. I cannot drag and drop Google Translate back onto the toolbar using Other Tools/Customize Toolbar or any other way I could think of. The curious thing is, I have another PC that I believe has gone through the same update process and the icon is still there. What happened?

Open the Customize window and set what toolbars (Show/Hide Toolbars) and toolbar items to display.

  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window to the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.

You can try "Clear the startup cache..." via the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.

Thanks but that didn't help because the Google Translate never appears in that collection. In fact, it removed another icon but I could restore it with dragging and dropping. I think the basic problem is that somehow the Google Translate extension has disappeared from that collection that can be dragged over to the toolbar.
