Why won't Firefox won't make automatic hyperlinks any more?

When I type a link address into the body of my message, it does not turn automatically into a hyperlink as it did in the past. When I turn it into a hyperlink manually, when it is sent, it does not open as that link, it opens as an old link I used in the past.

Firefox has never done that automatically.

There is usually a toolbar button in the editor to turn a text link into a clickable hyperlink (look for a chain like button).
You can select the text and click that button to turn the link into a clickable hyperlink.
If you can't find the button then hover them all to check the tooltip of each.
