For about the last 2-3 months I have been experiencing degrading performance on amazon.com It is so slow that it hogs one full core of my CPU taking 20-30 seconds before I can close its tab. Often amazon will start up fine with a fresh firefox restart, but over time, it gets slow. Loading of images is relatively quick, but scrolling is problematic and so is accessing all other tabs. I update FF on a regular basis and usually within 1-2 days of a new release. I'm running on Win7 64-bit, withABP, NoScript, Clean Links, Video DownloadHelper, and Webmail Ad Blocker.

The problems noted by users at this link are similar to mine -- https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/32cabx/firefox_3701_mac_amazoncom_insane_slowness_keeps/

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
