I need to switch my email service to go daddy. I still want to keep firefox as my email provider. To do this I need to backup my emails in a PST file. Can this be done and if so how?

Firefox is just a web browser, so any mail provider that offers a web interface usually works in Firefox.

Do you use any stand-alone/dedicated email software now?

The PST format is proprietary to Microsoft Outlook, which is a product included with Microsoft Office or an online Exchange account. If you do not have Microsoft Outlook or Exchange online, please ask about other formats you might be able to use.
