Using 49.0b7 version. From an shortcut a blank tab opens along with the Facebook page. Any idea how to not have this happen? I have reset FF to no avail. This only happens with 2 pages so far, Facebook and a Meraki Dashboard (this page has AP's on a job that I administer) and only from a shortcut not from within FF. Perhaps these 2 pages have something in common that FF doesn't like.

Is it the standard Firefox program shortcut? The icon can be set up to launch specific pages at startup (or more specifically, when you use the icon). To check whether that is set:

First, open the shortcut as follows:

  • Desktop shortcut: right-click the icon, choose Properties
  • Pinned taskbar icon: right-click the icon, right-click Mozilla Firefox, choose Properties

Windows normally will select the Shortcut tab. If not, go ahead and click the Shortcut tab.

You'll see the Target highlighted. On 64-bit Windows, that usually is no more and no less than the following:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If anything follows after that, try clearing it out.

After OK'ing the Properties dialog, you can test right away to confirm that Firefox now launches only your home page. Either:

  • double-click desktop shortcut
  • right-click pinned taskbar icon, click Mozilla Firefox

Success?

Thanks but this doesn't apply to my question. I have no problem with the FF shortcut per se only for the Facebook shortcut and that is linking properly. It just opens a new tab along with the FB page.

What is the Facebook shortcut? For example, a separate icon on your Windows desktop, or a Windows Favorite, or a Firefox bookmark, or a link added to your toolbar by an add-on, or a link in a website. Does the problem occur every time you use the shortcut or only when it is the first Firefox window opened in the session?

It is a separate icon. The problem only occurs when I click the shortcut. From an open browser window I do not get the problem. This only happens with Facebook. All other shortcuts work as expected.

Could there be something unusual in the URL of that particular shortcut that triggers FB to open a blank window?? Otherwise, no idea.
