Thunderbird freezes continually

more options

Thunderbird continually stops or freezes. An example is this morning I went to read my email on Thunderbird. Before I could read a single email it froze up, waited a minute or two started working, open an email it froze. In five minutes it froze up 4 times. I am using Windows 10 completely update. My security is Windows Defender. I use a vpn but Thunderbird crashes regardless of on or off. I have run it in safe mode and it still crashes/freezes/stops etc.... What can be done?

This is a many asked and answered question here for people with Windows 10.

The cause it the Windows Search in Windows 10.

Thunderbird menu: Tools: Options: Advanced section: General tab (If you cannot see the Thunderbird menu, press the Alt key or F10 key on your keyboard to show the menu)

You will see the same options as in my screenshot below.

Disable the option "Allow Windows Search to search messages".

Then reboot your computer.
