Firefox crashes, usually on video content

I did everything they recommend on the support page (safe mode, reinstall etc.) but my Firefox 55.0.3 still keeps constantly crashing on Video content. Youtube, etc.

That is a problem with the Shockwave Flash plugin.

YouTube would normally use the HTML5 media player and not the Flash plugin.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
