I have a new e-mail account and I am trying to copy a large number of e-mails to the new account, with the folder structure. What is the most effective way of accomplishing this?

Slow and steady is the most effective way.

You account is IMAP and it is a mail protocol, not a file system. So the process of copying mail into the account on the server has to be done slowly or data loss in the way of missing mails will occur. Each mail has to be uploaded to the ser4ver, allocated appropriate references and then updated in Thunderbird before the next is addresses.
