When I click "write" to start a new email, the "From:" is never the "default" that I set in "Manage Identities." My default is G@startmail.com. The "From:" is automatically populated with P@gmail.com I currently have 5 email addresses setup in Thunderbird and P@gmail.com is the first in the list of emails under "Account Settings." Is it because the G@startmail.com account has different settings than the gmail accounts? The startmail settings are:

   IMAP Port 993
   SSL/TLS
   Normal Password

When you start a new message, TB will use the address of the account for the folder that is currently open. It's possible to set the From: address for every folder, with an add-on:
