I want to be able to click on a link in an email and have it open in my browser without changing the page focus from the email to the browser. Can this be done?

If the browser is Firefox, type about:config in the address bar, Enter, and toggle browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground to true.

The browser is Brave, not Firefox. Can Thunderbird be set to call Firefox for this, instead of Brave? I don't want to change my default browser.

Unless you set Fx as the default, I'm not aware of a way to do this with other browsers. Try consulting Brave forums to see if there is a setting like the one for Fx.
