When opening a new website when a window is already opened I want Mozilla to add a tab and not create an entirely new window. How do I change this feature which presumably is in "settings".

Hello,

You may be holding down the shift key. When one holds down the shift key and clicks a link, Firefox opens the tab in a new window.

If you would like it opened in a new tab instead, you should hold down the control key.

If this is not the issue, please help us to understand with specific examples, like which website are you on that this happens for, extensions installed that may be relevant, and other similar information

If this is about opening a link from within an external application in Firefox then check this pref in about:config.

  • browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external => 3
