We run an intranet from a local server. Hyperlinks such as this work fine with IE and Chrome, eg file:\\server2\intranet\process_instructions.htm but Firefox changes them to this example which then fails to find the file. file:\\\intranet\process_instructions.htm If I go to File Open the actual file, it opens perfectly.

This worked for me! -Install NoScript addon for FireFox

-Tools -> Addons -> NoScript (General tab, at bottom check Scripts Globally Allowed) - this is so scripts on other sites are not blocked.

- In same window -> Advanced tab -> Trusted tab -> Check box:: Allow local links

- In same window -> whitelist tab -> paste in http://yourwebsite.com to address of website -> click allow

Bit of an odd work around I know. But I had problems getting user_pref to work correctly.
