Why does firefox 4.24.0.0 freeze when I open any website? I cannot even open google.com. I uninstalled firefox and re-installed it again, but I get the same problem. What should I do?

The only sites that do not freeze are Firefox or Mozilla sites. Any other sites freeze. I have to 'End Task' in Windows task manager to cancel Firefox. After I installed Fire fox, my laptop is slower than it used to be. No Firefox updates are available.

Does this still happen if you restart Firefox in Safe mode?

more options

Yes it still freezes

what I did: Start, Run and I typed: firefox.exe -safe-mode

I did not check any boxes.

Firefox opened prompting to restore previous session. I restored the previous.

Opened a new tab and typed www.google.com

It freezes on Google tab, a green circle keeps rotating and in the bottom left the message "Transfering data from www.google.com..." is displayed.

Left it for more than half an hour. Still nothing. Eventually I ended Firefox with Windows Task Manager.

Internet connection is fine. While firefox is freezing I can open IE and open google.com with no problem, I can open gmail, surf other websites etc. with no problem

(also tried gmail.com, same problem)

However when I opened yahoo.com, firefox did not freeze. McAfee/us and Mcafee/uk opened fine I tried more sites (Still in safe mode), firefox did not freeze.

It seems to me that I can open some sites while running in "safe mode".

It would really be nice to 'keep everything together' and not use Firefox and IE. Most importantly I would like to be able to open gmail.com. Do you think I have to change some setting in gmail?

This is really annoying now. Tried everything and google pages still freeze up when using FF4. I use Chrome and IE9 and do not have this issues with those browsers.

Can somebody please fix this?

I solved my problem

After installing Firefox 4.42.0.0 on an XP pc, I noticed that McAfee Site Advisor was automatically disabled. This made me thinking. The laptop I have a problem with runs Vista.

What I did.

I opened Firefox in the normal way (not in safemode)

I opened the following McAfee link:

http://uk.mcafee.com/root/aboutUs.asp?id=sa&affid=0

and downloaded the Site Advisor and followed the Install Instructions

I can now open google.com as well as gmail.com.

So far I am able to open any site with no problem.

Thank you McAfee!!
