I installed PC Tools' "Spyware Dr." but now I can't open the Firefox browser.

After installing "Spyware Doctor" (PC Tools, Inc.) I successfully performed a scan and removed all the threats and infections.

However, when I attempted to open Firefox, I got the error message as follows:

The proxy server is refusing connections.
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is
            refusing connections.

Do I need to change my settings to a "manual" proxy setting; or should I leave option --- "Use system proxy settings." ? ?

Many thanks. Roger Syrja e-mail: rogersyrja@bellsouth.net

I had similar problem except I don't use a proxy. FireFox either would hang in not responding either when it loaded or when I tried to load anything with it. I have had to use IE or Chrome while I was trying to fix FireFox. I tried reverting to FF 3.6.22 to no avail.

I finally found the problem is that Spyware Doctor regards plugin_container.exe which is part of FireFox as a threat. Therefore it blocks it without giving you an option to allow.

So I uninstalled FF, disabled Spyware Doctor, installed FF, and rebooted. At that point of course Spyware Doctor reenabled. I then went into Spyware Doctor to Settings, Global Action List and added data type file on disk, plugin_container.exe, Always Allow.

I am now blissfully using FF again. (I still am reverted to 3.6, I haven't tried it with the latest version yet, I am too weary for now.)

You may not need to reinstall FF, you may just need to allow plugin_container.exe in Spyware Doctor. But I just relayed the sequence I went through.

Unfortunately that didn't work for me in 7.0.1 version, but thanks for the info :)
