While using Firefox, it completely removed itself from my desktop. Now when I try to download Firefox it gives me an error message.

I'm not sure what's going wrong there. You could download from the FTP server and see whether that works better:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest-5.0/win32/en-US/

The link didn't work for me. It said the application failed to open. Do you think this problem could be due to the recent download of internet explorer 64 bit? I did some reading and it appears some flash players dont register with the new download. Any further help will be appreciated

You should be able to install Internet Explorer 8 (or 9) and Firefox at the same time without a problem.

This this page instead (http instead of ftp): http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest-5.0/win32/en-US/
