Hi Carl,

There are several places where you can specify whether Firefox should keep your history or not. Also, 3rd party applications can mess with Firefox' history data. The easiest way to solve this issue is to "reset" Firefox. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information, like cookies, passwords history, etc. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied and your data imported

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Carl,
Please note clicking the green arrowhead or using the return key attempts to find the address that you have just typed in, it does NOT display your History.

Whilst you are typing in an address you may be shown options that could include History but that depends on your settings.

If you want to see recent History (Windows) one method is to use Alt + S or for all your History in a sidebar Alt + H

Clicking the drop down marker at the far right end of the location bar open s list with pages that you have typed in the location bar.
To get a list of history items and bookmarks you need to press the Down key or start typing.
