I installed Firefox 24 Beta and when I try to load (for example) http://html5test.com Windows crashes with a BSOD 0x00000124. The failure also occurs in Firefox Safe mode with or without Windows Safe Mode. The failure does not occur with Firefox 23.0.1 or IE or Chrome. I believe after checking Intel's support site that my graphics drivers (and other drivers) are current.

Ok then try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches as you have already seen.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Still fails. Windows Update - Current - No driver updates listed on the Optional update page. Full security scan with Norton 360 - No issues found. Ran the Intel Graphics update tool. It reported that I have the lastest driver. Reinstalled Firefox 24 Beta 7 Firefox > Options > Advanced > Use Hardware acceleration when available: UNCHECKED Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox Exit Firefox Start Firefox in Safe Mode Typed: mozilla.org/ in the url bar. Page started to load then BSOD STOP: 0x00000124

The BSOD is repeatable with Firefox 24 Beta 7 but does not occur with 23.0.1

usually Firefox doesnt cause BSOD's, but a regular crash. If you are interested in telling about the BSOD, you can create a bug, first create a new profile and see if it still blue screens, if so write a bug.

What does it say about the cause of the BSOD?

  • Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings : untick "Automatically restart"

You can also check that in the event viewer.

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
Start > Run: eventvwr.msc
