The first step is open the page you want to be your home page. Preferably, have it in a window with no other tabs. To make sure, you can right-click the tab and choose Move to New Window. (If it's grayed, then it already is in its own window.)

Then try the steps in this article: How to set the home page. Any luck?

Hmm, I just noticed that you have a ton of crappy add-ons that you probably didn't intend to install. This can happen when you install free software, often there is a lot of stuff bundled in.

There are a lot of ways to tackle this, but I think the most convenient is to use scanning tools to clean up as much as possible automatically before diving into various dialogs to finish the job. This article lists tools that have worked for other Firefox users. You may need to run several of them to find everything.

Hello bernieceallen, after you follow jscher2000 advices, you can also try to delete in your profile folder the User.js file. The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, don't delete it, if you have not create the file, then delete the User.js file (it happens some programs to create and write in the file).

thank you

Note that the System Details List shows that the home page is set to Yahoo:

browser.startup.homepage: http://www.yahoo.com/bin/set

If that isn't working then you may have malware on your computer.
It is probably best to disable or remove all extensions that you didn't install yourself explicitly and only keep the ones that you use.

You can also check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

This does not work because all it says is to drag the icon next to the name of the webpage in the navigation bar that you want for your home page to the home icon and then click yes. The problem is: there is no icon in the navigation bar for my yahoo. So now what do you do?

I don't know why this reply posted down here when I clicked reply to the specific answer. I thought it would post under the solution I clicked on, which is the first one listed. Sorry for any confusion

Hi eibbed25, sorry that the article isn't fully up-to-date. The site icon is no longer shown next to the address, and in its place there is now a gray globe or a padlock. Now you need to drag that icon (either the globe or padlock) to the Home button.
