As of the update yesterday, Lightning disappeared from Thunderbird. I am on the beta update channel. Further, trying to manually install it fails with an unsupported version message.

Chosen solution

I have Lightning 5.6a2 running on TB 54.0a2 (Earlybird), which is not the same as TB 54.0b2 (Beta), which may account for the error. You probably want Lightning 5.6b2, available here. I understand the Earlybird channel will be retired soon, leaving the release, beta and nightly channels.

Lightning 5.6 is compatible with TB 54. You can find it here.

Still getting 'Lightning could not be installed because it is not compatible with Thunderbird 54.0.' Addons -> Gear -> Install add-on from file -> lightning-5.6a2.en-US.win32.xpi
