When i try and sign in to google in the popup window, I can't. I enter my email and then the page refreshes. It seems to be the old sign in design for google. I believe this is as a result of my hardening of Firefox. How to undo these changes for this sign in process?

If the authentication is OAuth2, you should see a browser-like window when first prompted for a password. You must allow cookies in TB Options/Privacy & Security for the authentication to complete.
