cant setup a gmail account in thunderbird
Hello,
I try to set up Thunderbird with my @gmail.com account. So I choose "New account" and fill the form with full name, Email address and Password. I see a green message: Configuration found in Mozilla ISP database.
Now it shows me: Available configurations Keep your folders and emails synced on your server Incoming IMAPimap.gmail.comSSL/TLS Outgoing SMTPsmtp.gmail.comSSL/TLS Username "myEmailAdress@gmail.com"
So I click on "Done" and a window pops up "Sign in with your Google Account" So there I enter my email and my password and then click "Sign In'. Now it shows me a number and sends me a message to my phone where I have to confirm that it's me trying to connect and shows me 3 random numbers. I have to click on the number on my phone that is shown in the popup. Now I click a button and a window opens, where I have to confirm permissions. So I click on "Allow" and the popup disappears. Then back in Thunderbird I click on "Done".
Now the same popup shows up again and I have to do all steps done just now again Email, Password, Phone confirm.
Now I see the following message in Thunderbird: Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.
So I tried Configure manually, where I see all the following information: Incoming server Protocol: IMAP Hostname: imap.gmail.com Port: 993 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 Username: "myEmailAdress@gmail.com"
Outgoing server Hostname: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 Username: "myEmailAdress@gmail.com"
Then I click "Done", again popup, again sign in, again confirm with phone with the same result: Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.
Sorry for a very detailed description, but I wanted to give all necessary information. Can anybody help me here? I tried all these steps many times.

If you have to enter your email in the OAuth window, instead of it being entered automatically, and the process goes in an endless loop, it's usually because cookies aren't accepted in TB Preferences/Privacy & Security.
Thanks for the answer, but I had a look and Cookies are allowed...
Try Outgoing server Hostname: smtp.gmail.com Port: 587 Connection security: STARTTLS Authentication method: OAuth2 Username: "myEmailAdress@gmail.com"

Adding gmail accounts should be routine, unless there is some external app interfering. What is the antivirus, and is there a VPN?
The outgoing server can connect on either port 465, SSL/TLS, or 587 and STARTTLS.
Ohh yes, I have Bitdefender Antivirus software running and I use Surfshark VPN... Might any of these cause problems?
A VPN is primarily for obscuring your location, which works against gmail authenticating the account. Bitdefender causes numerous issues if it's allowed to scan the TB profile folder or secure connections, or apply its anti-spam component.
You might get it to work by just disabling the VPN, but to test Bitdefender's effect, running Windows in safe mode is worthwhile.
