Thunderbird version 91 upgrade Mac

Since the upgrade of version 91 I have been unable to access my emails on Thunderbird as I keep getting "login to server imap.gmail.com failed". I know the password is correct and I have deleted account and created new one, which did pick up my emails and address book but still the login failed. I've deleted all saved passwords and added a key, as other earlier issues suggested, but makes no difference. Any suggestions please?

Still having the same problem... won't accept my login, it seems to have changed something in the upgrade but can't figure out what. Can access gmail on my phone but infuriating when on desktop through Thunderbird
