How do I stop pop-ups and re-directs completely?

I got Firefox because it has a strong record of blocking pop-up windows. However, on certain pages, I still get them. Also, when I do web site searches (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.) I will click on a search result and get re-directed to an ad page. When I go back and click on the link again, I get the right page. How do I stop these problems from occurring? They are very annoying!

Chosen solution

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
