Anytime I use firefox---i get pop-ups that are weird and not usable. Also, if I get a new tab, an ad covers the page until I click on skip this ad in "X" amount of seconds. It is only happening in firefox and not safari. I cannot even use firefox.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and find a good add / pop-up blocker.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":
