I'm unable to download any file of any type since I'm on Firefox 32.0.3. It just says the download has failed, and the file is empty. Everything was working fine until then. I've already tried resetting Firefox and all that's on the troubleshooting page. Nothing works. I've been using Safari these last few days, but would like to go back to Firefox. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.6.8

Thank you in advance

In my case, the dialog box does appear, but whether I choose to open or to save, the download button still indicates that the download has failed. Also, the page recommends resetting Firefox, but I've already done this twice, with no result...

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Try to rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

Do you have any anti-virus software on your Mac that might be causing it?

Also make sure that you have write permissions for the OS temp folder and the final destination folder.

  • Firefox > Preferences > General: Download

Try to repair the disk permissions:
