I have followed the recommended procedure but when I try to create the IMAP account I get an error saying "Username or password is incorrect" and I am unable to proceed. That can't be right because the password is correct; I've checked it very carefully and the email account works perfectly well. Am I doing something wrong or can I force the issue?

Is the username correct? You get the same error message if that one is wrong, or the wrong format.

I should have said that username and password were correct. I tried again today (20/6/2015) and, at the second attempt, it worked because I changed (manually) the name of Google's server to that of my ISP (Virgin). All working now!

Strange, because Google manages email for Virgin.
