restoring email profile after Thunderbird re-install - old version 45.8.0, new version 128.3.2

For some reason my present Thunderbird version still is v45.8.0. Trying an update on this version fails. The new version offered on your website is 128.3.2, which must be rather more recent.

If I archive the profile folder (in C:\Users\Userid\AppData\Roaming), will I be able to restore it by replacing the installed folder in the new version? Is the existing folder ex version 45.8.0 compatible with version 128.3.2?

Well, you're a few years out of date. Here is the normal upgrade path to ensure all updates are applied to your profile:

Many thanks - I will try the upgrade path first, see how that works.

your other choice would be to just try the latest 128 release. If a compatibility message appears, go to profile and delete the compatibility.ini file and try again. If it runs, you would need to import the old addressbook with tools>import>import from a file. The old addressbook was abook.mab and history.mab, and the import would convert them to the new format. This isn't the 'official' approach, but it would be much quicker if it worked.
