changed internet provider to Charter and created a charter email account. Tried to setup thunderbird to access this account. All attempts failed. There appears no place to enter my charter Password in manual setup or other ways. Mike

After verifying all server settings were correct in Thunderbird I changed connection security to "none" which now asked for my PW when checking mail. On reentering PW "get mail" worked! Will reset security to SSL/TLS and see what happens. Update!! Resetting security to SSL/TLS or "STARTTLS" did not work . Can only receive mail from Charter account using "none" for connection security. Firefox had automatically assigned SSL/TLS and this was the real problem. Mike Again thanks Matt

You'll be prompted for the password when it's needed.

So far I can send an email to my charter account from a non charter account and view them there. Likewise logged in to charter email I can send email to a non charter account. However thunderbird does not read/receive email from my charter account. no error messages.

have you tried disabling email scanning in your anti virus program?

No effect. Where in thunderbird can I enter my charter email password?

Passwords in Thunderbird are requested on first use. You do not get to enter them as part of the setup and you do with Microsoft mail clients, although the password is saved if the option is checking in the new account wizard.

Stored passwords can be viewed and deleted only Tools menu (alt+T) > options > Security > passwords and clicking the saved password button.

Perhaps you need to post the account details shown on the help menu under troubleshooting information. If windows safe mode with networking does not work, they only real thing left is an incorrect account setting.

I am having a similar problem. When I open Thuderbird, I am asked for permission to open a keyring, and required to enter a password. Once i enter that password, I am required to enter another one to connect to the server. This all started with the last update. Before, the entire process required one password which was stored, with the result that I never typed in a password. It worked that way in Firefox and Outlook also.

I assume this is a new and approved security procedure, but it makes no sense to me.

TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE A BUG. I think some remedial programming is necessary.

It also should be obvious that users should be able to change their passwords as necessary, Any programming that makes that more difficult or impossible, is bad programming. I am looking forward to a fix on this problem.

I think I may have solved the problem by down loading an add-on: Saved Passwords.
