In particular I am trying to use my "Lumosity" web site which is enabled by adobe flash only (according to them). When I log on to that site and try to load a game, it never loads due to "flash" being blocked I assume. I do not get the message at the top asking if I wish to activate "flash".

I understand that Mozilla is taking a stand with Adobe for their ongoing security issues and I appreciate that. I originally uninstalled flash from my Linux/Ubuntu operating system after learning about the issue but I could not find a suitable substitute to run videos and such, so I had to reinstall it to use my computer. After reinstalling I am able to view you tube and vimeo but am not able to use my Lumosity web site. I would appreciate any suggestions of how to get flash to run in spite of security issues or some other way to fully use my computer. Thank you, Jeff

I should also mention the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog. You can call that up on a page using any of these:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or globe icon to the left of the site address > More Information > Permissions

At the top there is a section for site-specific plugin activation permissions. Hopefully if the other method doesn't work, this one will.

With "Ask to Activate" set, when you visit a site that wants to use Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar that looks a bit like a small lego block. If the plugin(s) the page wants to use are considered "vulnerable" it will be red with a white circle, and if it/they are not vulnerable, it will be gray.

Sometimes the infobar doesn't appear, or a "poster" in front of the plugin placeholder blocks the link there, but that icon in the address bar should always be available.

Can you find that? If you click that, you should be able to approve Flash for the site.

Even though Adobe released new updates early Tuesday for Windows and Mac OSX they have yet to do so for Linux as 11.2.202.481 was the version that came from Adobe in previous update. Adobe said a update for Linux was to be for week of July 12.
