I had a new hardrive installed and now all of my firefox bookmarks are gone, how do I get them back?
My laptop was running windows 7 and suddenly wouldn't let me login on my user, it kept logging me in on a temporary profile. I took the laptop to a computer shop and they retrieved my data and installed a new harddrive. But all of my bookmarks have gone.
I have spoken with a tech from the shop and he got me to go to 'unsorted bookmarks' > 'import and backup' > 'restore' but there are only two dates, both after the new harddrive was installed. I also went to 'unsorted bookmarks' > 'import and backup' > 'import data from another browser' > 'microsoft internet explorer' but of course none of the bookmarks from firefox were imported.
The tech got me to look at a folder on my desktop he had made, this is what he got me to open in it, 'm4s205w1.default-1431054572899' > 'bookmarkbackups' > 'bookmarks-2015-05-08_14_1JVKyK5J3OqBX3X+Ma6BQw==.jsonlz4'. I don't know what that file is as my computer doesn't seem to know how to open it.
So after all of the above, the tech has told me that he can't help and all of the data is gone.
Is there any other way to get my bookmarks back? I have over 5 years of Thesis info/sites and info/sites from a business I run from this computer.
One more piece of information that might be needed. Since the new harddrive has been installed I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
I appreciate any help, thank you.

Hi
thanks for replying. I followed the instructions in your message and the first time it didn't work, so I looked in other folders within the OldfirefoxData folder and found a .jsonlz4 file that had the bookmarks. Yay! There was more than one folder named 'bookmarkbackup' in amongst all of the other folders. Sorry that I clicked on the 'didnt work' button. The tech I'd spoken to earlier had said the first folder I looked in was the only one that would have the info...obviously he was wrong! Thanks for your help :)

You can restore a compressed .jsonlz4 backup in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore.
Note that restoring will replace all current bookmarks with the bookmarks in the backup.
