I just installed Firefox on a new PC. I used Firefox Sync which worked great. However, there is no "mailto" application showing in my list of Applications so that I can set my email link to Gmail.

There is a previous thread on this but it did not solve my problem. I tried, as suggested, changing mimeTypes.rdf to mimeTypes.old and restarting but that did NOT work. Still not showing a mailto.

I am running Firefox 38.4 ESR on Windows 7. (I need to use the ESR version due to some add-ons I need that won't run under FF 41.) I am wondering if this missing "mailto" is related to using the ESR version?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can check the mailto prefs on the about:config page and reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

(you already tried this:) Rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
