A few days ago this issue started where I would be browsing websites and scrolling down using my own mouse (not the laptops mouse) but it will automatically scroll up on its own one or two scrolls. The issue doesn't present itself when I use the arrow keys. It sounds like an issue with my mouse but when I Googled for help others seem to rule out their mouse. It's a fairly new mouse and it doesn't act up anywhere so I'm wondering if it's a browser issue. I have disabled "enhanced point precision" under my mouse settings because that's what everyone suggested for others but the problem is still happening. This problem doesn't seem to occur in Edge (the only other browser that I have).

Does this happen outside of Firefox?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

You may have switched on caret browsing.

You can toggle caret browsing on/off by pressing F7 (Mac: fn + F7).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Note that this is an accessibility feature of Firefox.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.
