Hello, Today I noticed that some of the oldest links in my history disappeared. I usually keep all my history and I remember that one and an half year ago (about in december 2014) I deleted all my history while making a backup. So the oldest history links were visited in january and february 2015, but in my oldest history i see links from mid-march. I saw that if i open firefox for a while, the oldest links get deleted one by one without any reason. I used a Mozilla History Viewer software and i succeeded to make a backup of about 108600 links, but 1) 2 months of history got lost and 2) i can't figure out why it keeps deleting itself. The only thing i'm guessing is the size limit on the places.sqlite file (81920 KB). My questions are: Is it true that there's a size limit on that file or is there a number limit on the links (I saw something on the about:config page searching "places.*", Although i don't know what should i modify to set the size/number limit as unlimited). Also is there a way to recover those two months of browsing? Since it's an year ago I can't recover files in the "Profiles\***.default" folder and it doesn't come anything else on mind. Can anyone help on this? Thank you very much

What is your computer system and Firefox?

History and cookies can be removed or not recorded several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

I run version 46 on windows 7 1) Even if i run firefox in private mode, it will not record the most recent history, that doesn't explain the "elimination one by one" of the oldest links. 2) Privacy settings modified can delete the last access history, or from the most recent to the old. Or worse they can delete all the history. 3-4) I check my system periodically and don't have an anti-virus. It doesn't seem a malware problem but it seems that if i visited (e.g.) 1000 sites and i want to visit site number 1001, the first site i visited would be deleted. The fact is that I don't know how to increase this limit and i don't know how to recover the lost links.

Ahh. The History Manager is set up to display the site most recently visited at the top of the list. If you visit one of the sites again, that entry is now the latest visited and is moved to the top of the list.

Norwell History Tools {web link} Norwell reveals the history that is otherwise hidden from you in native firefox history viewer. Displays all browsing history chronological/sequentially as timeline. Advanced search, wildcards and filters. Chrome and Firefox history import tool.
