Recently emails download on startup but not when I press Get Messages. (charter.net)
In the last couple of months, I noticed that Thunderbird (TB) was loading new emails when I started it, but not when I pressed "Get Messages". Stopping and restarting TB loaded new messages. I am using TB 45.1.1. I am connecting to an IMAP server from Charter.net.

There was a similar problem with GoDaddy a while ago which did affect many people, and GoDaddy were simply denying there was a problem at all. In the end they silently fixed it, whatever the problem was.

There have been a lot of complaints in this forum recently from people using Charter about the very same problem. You'll need to talk to Charter. Tell them you're not the only one with the problem.
Hi Christ1, Yes, I saw that post about GoDaddy and suspected Charter of messing up, but have not been able to confirm it. The Android clients (AquaMail) I use work as advertised with a mobile version of Charter's IMAP server. The only thing I can figure is that the ports Charter has set up for desktop IMAP requests (thru their cable modem) is incorrectly configured.
In another test I ran, I connected from the desktop to the router with WIFI and used the mobile settings (same ones that work for android wifi clients) and had the same problem - no download on Get Messages request. To me this points to Thunderbird 45.1.1 running on Windows 10 64-bit. An old windows vista laptop running TB 45.1.1 also could not get messages over wifi. So again this points to TB.

Jim, Have you resolved this charter.net+Thunderbird problem??
It is still failing to load new messages on request, but I have noticed that new emails do get downloaded over time. This is usually about 2 hours behind the current time. I have basically given up and am just closing and restarting thunderbird to see new messages.
