I can open received Word docs and jpegs but when I ask Thunderbird to open pdfs, it insists I save the pdf first, even when I select 'Open' - why? With thanks.

Hi. When I receive emails with pdfs attached, I am unable to open the pdf without saving it first. When I select 'Open', I am still asked to save the pdf and must then go to the location where I saved the file and open it from there. The problem only occurs with pdfs. I can open received Word docs and jpegs no problem. Also, I have no problem opening and reading saved pdfs. It would be great to be able to open pdfs straight from Thunderbird. Is this possible?

I just tell people to delete because it requires less skill with a computer. Once deleted the user has to make choices to open a file that end up saved exactly the same as what you have done.

On the toolbar > Options > Attachments > incoming.

Delete anything associated with PDF files and once done try and open one.

Thanks Matt. Great to get a quick response. By the time I read it, though, I'd found and re-selected an appropriate action under Options > Attachments > incoming and this has worked for me (without deleting anything). I'll keep your advice in mind in case I have any further problems. Thanks!
