missed the very first time run option where it gives the option to import all the data. Tried with 31. and latest version and no luck. Says successfully imported but no address book found.

Import is on the tools menu.

On the toolbar > Tools >

Thank you for the response. Like I said, if you install thunderbird version 38+ it shadows the import from outlook. If you use thunderbird version 31 or earlier. it gives you the option to import from outlook. But it says successfully imported, but then in the box it says no address book found. Tools->Import does not work. That is why I wanted to re-install thunderbird and tried to run it again and see if I can get that message where it ask you to import all the data from previous software i.e. Outlook. It normally asks you once, the very first time that you run thunderbird. Thanks Jg

I don't recall ever seeing that prompt. Thunderbird's first action is to invite you to set up an account.

Thank you for your reply. When installed and run for the VERY FIRST TIME. It ask you several things: 1- If you want to make thunderbird your default email browser. 2- set up a new account 3- If you want to import all your setting from outlook or(other email software). i thought going to tools->import would do the trick, That is why I did not click on the tick box. CLose Thunderbird + R In the run box type %appdata% Delete the Thunderbird folder Start Thunderbird.

Please get back to us when you get the exact same result and we will look at why.

Thank you Matt; I managed to make it run like the very first time. Unfortunately, in versions 38 or above it does not let you import from outlook. In versions 31 or below it does let you import from outlook, but it says successful but nothing gets imported. Same as if I was importing from Tools->Import. My email folders are empty. Thanks JG

You can get 31, and all older versions, here:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/

But I really can't remember ever seeing this option. Maybe it requires a specific set of circumstances, such as a clean install alongside a pre-existing Outlook installation.

However, import from Outlook has been broken for some time. You may need to go back to 17 to find a working Outlook import, and then you may find it isn't compatible with the version of Outlook you have.

Perhaps export to CSV from outlook and import to Thunderbird address book the same way.

Thank you guys, tried going back as far as version 17, but no luck. Will park it for the time being. Thanks again, Jg
