Remove the file. Start Firefox. Close it after a minute. Does the file return? Now repeat the above but Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks for trying to help, FredMcD, but it did not work and that file is still returning.

Did it return in Safe Mode?

Check the file date/time. Is the file created when you open Firefox, close it, or sometime in between?

You can check the home page setting and the session restore file in case you have included a page that tries to download this file.

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
