Google images showing as background colour once default colours are changed

more options

Google image searches shows only as the colour I have selected as my background when I try to look for something. In Google Sheets, Docs, and Maps the selected background colour also overpowers/overwrites the colour preview pop-up when changing the colour of text, highlights, or pins. Returning to default colours or changing "Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above" from "Always" (which makes it so I can actually see my selected colours) makes the issue occur. I have tried refreshing Firefox and changing the colours again to no avail. The issue occurs again.

I'm not sure why the thumbnails are displayed as background images for some users and inline images for others (I get inline images with data: URIs as shown in the attached screenshot).

But more generally, yes, overriding page colors has the problem that it overrides more than you would expect. As an alternative, you could consider using an extension that injects style rules into pages to integrate your preferred colors with the site's other colors.
