Just updated to FF9. I am no longer just disappointed, but ticked off that the the bug that causes Save As to remember where the last file was saved from individual sites instead of just where the last file was saved to has not been fixed. Why is this? How hard can it be to fix it?

For example, suppose I save an image from Motifake to Folder A and an image from ihasahotdog to Folder C. Then I go back to Motifake and save an image. Instead of Folder C, Save As opens to Folder A instead of Folder C. I direct Save As to save the image to Folder A. The I go back to ihasahotdog, save an image and instead of Folder A, Save As opens to Folder C.

Also, this bug happens with all filetypes, not just images.

FF's developers know that the "added feature" that started with FF7 that causes FF to remember the last download save folder based on the domain in the URL instead of using the last folder saved to annoys a lot of users both directly and with the lack of preference to turn it on/off. Yet they won't fix it.

Why can't they understand that no matter how much of a good idea they think it is, most users hate it and do not want it? And what's with this "It's being worked on" B.S.? They added it in one version update, why can't they take it out as quickly as it was added?

Firefox 11 should be released about 12 weeks after the release of Firefox 9, so that should be in March.

You will have to wait for Firefox 11 to have a pref to disable that feature.

  • bug 702748 - Use a pref for disabling per-site remembering of download directory

Why are the developers making everyone wait until then? Why don't they put that in now or disable per-site remembering of download directory until then? I'm sure I'm not the only one would like to at least know that.

Also, is there a target date for FF11?

Not what I hoped to hear, but I do thank you for your reply!

Here's a tip: RELEASE IT NOW.

There's no reason to delay fixing this idiotic mistake.

This is a feature?!? I'm stunned. I thought it was just a stupid bug because it doesn't even work for the same domain! If I download 5 files from the SAME web page, I get prompted with 5 different seemingly randomly-selected destination folders. I don't think I've ever been annoyed with FF until now. (Unrelated note: FF9 also often forgets what persona to use.)

We get updates almost every week. Just disable the stupid "Save" feature and release a patch now!

This "feature" is so diabolically annoying I honestly thought it was a virus.

I just installed upgraded from FF3 to FF10 a few days ago and bumped into this problem. I too thought it was picking up random directories until I realised what was going on.

I also was on a single specific site with links downloads from specific servers. This feature would work well if it uses the URL of the link page rather than the URL of the file host.

This option cannot be disabled soon enough. It's driving me nuts having to re-navigate back to the same directory over and over again.
