FreeCreditReport.com opens up firefox when I boot up my system each day. I have NEVER gone to that site and would NOT use it. It is beyond irritating. It is NOT in my bookmarks. It is not in my start up menu. I can't figure where it comes from or how to get rid of it! I just ran xRay my PC and quaranteed adware, but it still comes up.

You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started (be cautious with disabling services).

hello, please check if the shortcut you use to launch firefox is manipulated - right-click it & go to properties and make sure that there is no FreeCreditReport.com command line switch appended at the end of the target field.

also run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

Hi artsygirl,

  • Out of curiosity what was it that caused your problem ?
    • Or at least what did you do to stop this particular problem ?
      What was the name of the rogue software ?

I also note looking at the system information (see aside in the forum) you have listed as an inactive extension

  • "Updater By SweetPacks 2.0.0.609 (Inactive) "

Sweetpacks is often considered to be unwanted; or even by some; to be malware.

You may need to be a bit more cautious when downloading software

  • Always try to find reviews of the software
    and the download sites before downloading anything
  • Lookout for extra software bundled with what you want.
    Be aware of any tick boxes hidden in smallprint about adding;
    or not !! including extra features and software.
