I am not sure of the nature of my problem. I now have Ask show up in my Mozilla search screen as soon as I open Mozilla. It did not use to open in this manner.

I have tried to remove Ask from the Mozilla search engine but I cannot do it. I have tried to uninstall and re-install Mozilla but this has not helped the problem. I was somehow asked a question about Ask but I never answered the question. The next thing I know Ask is all over my Mozilla search engine. I really want to get rid of it.

Hello,

This sounds like some malware has hijacked your Firefox and is changing your search engine preferences without permission.

Please try the following:

  • View your Firefox Add-ons and remove any that you didn't install yourself. It is possible that a toolbar has installed as an add-on and is causing the problem.
  • Look through your list of Windows installed programs and manually uninstall any that you think might be involved (e.g. if they mention Ask).

Once you have done that I suggest you run a virus scan to ensure that nothing remains of the malware that caused the issue. As well as running your standard virus scan software I recommend that you run a couple of additional scans. These free programs scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Once the malware that caused the original problem is completely gone from your computer you should find that the problem is gone.

However it may be necessary to reset a number of Firefox settings that the malware altered. The easiest way to do this would be to do a Firefox Reset. This will return Firefox to its default settings. Your personal information (history, bookmarks etc) will be saved but you will need to reinstall your add-ons. See here for how to do a reset:

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Also see here for more information: Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page

I hope this helps. Let me know if not.
