With attachments in thunderbird I can open .xlsx files directly but not .docx I'm using open office 4.0.1 please help
Clicking on .docx attachments the screen just fashes briefly but then nothing happens. I have to download the .docx files then they open normally.
With .xlsx clicking on these attachments open normally

I also have the issue. TB 24.6, MS Word 2010 (via Office pro 2010) attachment options (both doc and docx) are set to open in MS Word. Upon clicking, it flashes the screen and ...nothing. I can save, detach, and the document functions as normal. TB just will not open from within. Powerpoint, excel all operate via clicking on the attachment...just not Word

AppMenu button - Options - Attachments - Incoming
Look for the .docx file type in the left column. What's the associated action?
Alas nothing - no .xlsx or.docx files listed under tools. Any other ideas?
You may not see the file extension in the list, but some sort of description like 'Excel spreadsheet' or something similar.
If there was no entry at all you'd be prompted for an action.
All I have is: Excel 97-2003 Open with open office Calc Word 97-3003 Open with open office Writer
For some strange reason the excel.xlsx files open perfectly from Thunderbird attachments but the word.docx don't
