I had been running TB 1.0.2 on an XP Pro laptop for many years with an admin and a non-admin account. I recently upgraded it to Win 7 and installed the latest TB (27 or something).

As I was adding e-mail addresses through the non-admin account, suddenly all but two addresses disappeared from the left pane. However, when I opened Tools/Account Settings, I saw all the accounts still listed on its left pane. I also noticed a "Unified Folders" at the bottom which I had never seem before.

I found a View tab which gave me several options including All but although I tinkered with it several times, I could not make the full address list appear.

Since I found the new version too cryptic and the old 1.0.2 was unavailable, I uninstalled TB and installed 1.0.7 which looked very familiar except that the Unified Folders was still visible in the non-admin account but not in the admin account. I uninstalled/re-installed 1.0.7 and still the Unified Folder seemed to get re-generated automatically in the non-admin account but not in the admin account.

Tools/Account Settings shows its address as C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ptntwaz9.default\Mail\smart mailboxes and also deactivates the Remove Account button for this folder.

I am afraid to enter the addresses, not knowing what this Unified Folders would do since I no longer had a View tab or any other control over it.

So my question is - is there any way to get rid of the Unified Folders from TB 1.0.7? Any help will be appreciated.

You will be lucky to find someone else who chooses to use such an old version.

All past versions can be found here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/

…but since I haven't used TB1.anything since it was updated, I can't help you with smart or unified folders in such an old version.

The trouble with recent versions is that they have an Application Menu button in place of menus, but you're still supposed to be able to see toolbars. Most of Thunderbird's windows don't actually have an Application Menu button, so you need to re-enable menus (and toolbars) anyway.

Once you have restored menus and toolbars it will look less cryptic.

This add-on:

will restore the folder view switch buttons.
