Every time I update Firefox, I get infected with Conduit Search. It just happened with the upgrade to 29 on both my laptop and desktop. Getting rid of it is not as easy as answers in the forum suggest, but I would rather avoid it than keep removing it. Does anyone know how I am getting it? Does it lurk on my hard drive after "removal", ready for the next upgrade, or is it integrated into the download from the Mozilla site? I would love to avoid it FOREVER! Thanks.

You can check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if anything from Conduit or any other suspicious software shows up.

  • Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
  • Click the Installed column to sort by this heading

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and search for prefs that refer to conduit and reset related user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Hello,

you can read up this post so you can cleanly remove Conduit Search and related clones like Conduit Search Protect, Trovi Search and many other variants you guys can find at ourtoolbar[dot]com.

None of the above replies to this damn "conduit problem has worked or they are sufficiently vague as to make them useless. Surely there's got to be an understandable (to a technophobe) way to remove this pain in the ass. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm all ears. Thanks.
