Mail lists idea. Mail list usage is cumbersome, unlike Windows Live Mail's Categories. I can't use WLM for Hotmail anymore, thanks to MS.
T-Bird vs. Windows Live Mail's "Categories" (mail lists). T-Bird needs upgrading. Most of my email is sending to distribution lists using WLM under Windows 7. Wonderful Microsoft threw me under the bus when they changed their Hotmail protocols to conform with Outlook. I am trying to live with T-Bird, but the mail lists are a pain to use.
1. I would like the ability to address a group send using the name of the mail list, NOT having to do a copy of the list addressees.
2. You should have a choice of doing TO, CC, or BCC for the list as a whole. I prefer to use BCC for all group sends to protect the privacy of the addresses.
3. Creating new mail lists should be a simple matter of creating the list by name, then drag and drop addresses from the Address Book of your choice.
Other than that, I am very pleased with T-Bird. I did extensive comparisons of mail clients before I chose T-Bird, but this mail list thing is a major problem for me.
Thanks for reading this...

1 and 3 already work just as you request. You'll have to describe your working method in greater detail to allow someone to understand why yours don't behave as expected.
2. Yes indeed you should use Bcc: in such circumstances. When you have made it use a Mailing List then all you need to do is add the Mailing List's name to the address box and switch To: to Bcc:. There is an add-on, UseBccInstead which does a good job of nagging or automatically swapping to Bcc:. Unfortunately, Mailing Lists do not store the addressing style.
You have said "list" but many people use this to mean an address book. Look at File|New|Mailing List in the Address Book; is this the same as your "list"?
