Is the warning phone number and alarm screen I saw a scam?
Just got a very a red background screen on my computer and a loud voice message saying that malware was trying to invade my computer. It claimed to be from Mozilla Firefox and told me to call 844 338 4651 to obtain an easy fix to the problem. There were several windows with the red screened one in back and directions in the smaller screens. I was not allowed to close the smaller screened windows to get to the larger window without actually closing the red window, which closed all of them.
The phone number just a had a please press one message with no context so I hung up. I then googled mozilla's customer support number, dialed 844 844-2429 and got an exchange answered by someone with a very heavy south asian accent. He did not identify himself as working for Mozilla until I asked if it was Mozilla (stupid me). I explained the problem and said I needed to find out how to confirm the number above or report it as a scam. As soon as I said scam he said I should do that and hung up.
The warning screen told me I needed to get this malware invasion fixed before I did any internet shopping. I am pretty freaked out right now but I am over 80% sure it was a scam. Can you confirm?
Thanks, Anne

Hi, yes you are right to be suspicious, Mozilla will never ask you to call them. If you had proceeded, they may well have asked you to enter an address into your browser which would have allowed them to take control of your computer and access your data.
More - Avoid and report Mozilla tech support scams.
