I have 2 installations of Thunderbird. The desktop has version 52.4.0 32bit and the laptop has version 52.3.0 32bit. Both installations have Verizon.net, Hotmail.com and gmail.com accounts with settings the same in both installations.

A couple of days ago, the desktop (version 52.4.0) started not downloading messages from the hotmail server and when clicking of any of the folders of the hotmail account displaying..... "Mail Server address@hotmail.com is not an IMAP4 server" The laptop (version 52.3.0) downloads the hotmail messages fine.

Is this a bug in the 52.4.0 version?

Please add the Mail and News Accounts part of troubleshooting information to your post for both of your machines. I am assuming that you have created an IMAP account on the troublesome one and provided POP server settings in the setup process. This will not work, the server and the account type must match.

To find the Troubleshooting information:

  • Open Help (or click on three-line-icon and select Help)
  • Choose Troubleshooting Information
  • Use the button Copy to clipboard to select all. Do not check box "Include account names"!
  • Paste this in your post.

Please also add the result of these troubleshooting steps to your post

  • Does Thunderbird work in TB Safe mode (see Thunderbird Safe Mode)?
  • Do you use anti-virus and firewall software? What is the version?
  • Who is the email provider?
  • Who is the internet provider?
  • What is the exact error message?
  • What steps did you take right before this happened?

Please post back with this information and any other questions you might have.

Both installation settings identical. Only difference is the version of Thunderbird. Bug in 52.4.0 compared to 52.3.0?

This article gives some possible reasons for the error message. Since the settings are identical in both machines, maybe you have a security program in the 52.4 one that is incompatible with the new version.

I asked for information and did not get it. I am out of here.

Oops, had the server port wrong on the desktop. Had it set to 995 and it should have been 993. Working now. Tks to all.

I'll bet you have that list in a text file that you can just paste in for any given question. It surely scared me away. Anyway, guess I solved it myself. Have a good evening.
